Matthew Smagacz, CFA, FRM

Director of Private Investments

Among my little-known talents are …having a photographic memory but still managing to forget an item on the list every time when going out for groceries.

In my spare time… I read, I love live music and try to go whenever possible, play tennis, play the piano, spend time exploring and traveling with my family, baking overly complicated confections and being a lively member of the Peloton cult.

Some of my best skills I bring to my job.. intellectual rigor, a quantitative framework and a healthy dollop of common sense.

What makes you laugh the most? My nine-year-old daughter having glow stick dance parties to EDM, or “beat drop music” as she calls it.

What is your proudest accomplishment? Building a life with my beautiful wife, precocious daughter and goofy dog. I feel very lucky.

What is a saying that you live by? In my work: “Markets are never wrong – opinions often are.” – Jessie Livermore and in my personal life, “Be yourself; everyone else is taken.” – Oscar Wilde
