Caprock Managing Director and Client Advisor David Solow was featured in “From Crypto to Collectibles: How Advisors Can Navigate Non-Traditional Investments” by Financial Advisor IQ.

Solow shared insights on how individuals and families are incorporating non-traditional investments such as art, cars, and memorabilia into their portfolios.

“If you were an average art buyer over the past 15 or 20 years, you probably did pretty well. Not necessarily because you had a particularly refined eye, but the market has generally increased in value,” Solow said.

The article continues to discuss additional considerations for non-traditional investments, including storage, maintenance, and insurance, all of which can impact estate planning.

“There are accountants who specialize in art,” Solow said. “Especially for clients with large collections, their art can benefit from a thoughtful trust and tax structure—both in terms of passing on wealth to future generations and, often, charitable intent. Giving art to museums, for example, is very different from just writing a check,” he said.
