Director of Public Markets

Overview

The Director Public Markets will help manage, develop and communicate strategies for deploying capital in public securities, including debt and equity securities. Responsibilities will include leading initial and ongoing diligence of managers, funds and individual securities with an emphasis on understanding the risk profile, opportunities and tax implications of both active and passive strategies; identifying and developing important investment themes which anticipate the current and future needs of client portfolios; leading and cultivating deep and respectful relationships with investment partners, developing and modeling thoughtful portfolio strategies with Advisors to meet client portfolio objectives and communicating clearly with internal and external stakeholders in both written and verbal formats.

Description

  • Act as internal resource for advisors and clients with regard to Caprock’s public securities strategies and market viewpoints;
  • Develop and maintain a strong industry network and robust pipeline of new attractive opportunities;
  • Help lead all aspects of investment manager relationships for Caprock’s liquid security exposures, including active management, direct indexing relationships, ETFs, mutual funds, platform technology solutions and other exposures;
  • Work with advisors to analyze and recommend options for portfolio allocations, risk management, tax mitigation and custom strategies to better meet the needs of clients;
  • Review and analyze a diverse range of investment related materials including financial statements, industry trends, cap tables, projections, third party reports, and proprietary models to evaluate investment opportunities;
  • Review and negotiate investment documents to identify and clearly articulate important terms including fees, expenses, potential conflicts, risks, and liquidity provisions;
  • Author client-facing and internal manager recommendations that clearly and succinctly communicate the risks and opportunities an investment offers;
  • Perform industry reviews to develop investment themes and identify investment opportunities;
  • Coordinate diligence and quarterly review meetings with investment managers and actively communicate manager and fund performance;
  • Manage all aspects of the onboarding process with new investment managers;
  • Identify potential client prospects at events and conferences through active networking;
  • Contribute to research and development of investment themes and capital market assumptions;
  • Contribute to the development and preparation of monthly and quarterly investment commentaries and forecasts for both internal and external audiences;
  • Participate in client meetings led by Client Advisors when applicable;
  • Perform other duties as requested by the CIO.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Finance, Accounting, or Business degree preferred;
  • MBA or CFA preferred;
  • 8 – 10 years of experience in public securities;
  • In-depth, highly informed daily knowledge of financial markets and portfolio investments, including holdings, sectors and strategies;
  • Experience at a single or multi-family office, RIA, Wholesaler, pension fund, insurance companies, funds of funds, or similar where the role included significant public markets fund diligence;
  • Demonstrated experience in negotiating investment terms and understanding complex fund models and special investment vehicles;
  • Demonstrated interest in financial markets and traditional and alternate valuation techniques across multiple asset classes;
  • Demonstrated client-facing experience and excellent internal and external communication skills;
